The product

Dried Cascara sagrada bark

Cascara sagrada— Spanish for “sacred bark” — is a small deciduous tree native to the Pacific Northwest. Its bark has been used for generations as an ingredient in herbal digestive supplements and traditional remedies. Pacific Coast Cascara Bark buys freshly peeled bark from local peelers, dries and grinds it to spec, and ships it in bulk to botanical manufacturers worldwide.

Our process

  1. 1
    Buying season

Our buying season typically runs from late May through August. During that window, peelers across Grays Harbor County bring fresh bark to our Montesano buying facility, where it is weighed and paid for at a set seasonal price per pound.

  2. 2
    Drying

Fresh bark arrives with moisture content and goes into our drying kilns, bringing moisture down to storage- and shipping-stable levels.

  3. 3
    Dry grind

Dried bark is passed through a dry grinder to produce a finer, more uniform product ready for packaging.

  4. 4
    Bagged and shipped

Ground dried bark is packed into new burlap bags and shipped in bulk to our customers — botanical companies and their brokers around the world.
